Prospective owners want your advice

We have been looking at one of the UFOs on the market just now.  Oddly, she has no anchor locker, bow roller or anchor!  Seems strange to us and we wondered if this is the case with all UFOs.  What does yours have?

We'd also be very interested in how you have found her sailing ability.  One of the reviewers on the net seemed to suggest she has some nasty downwind habits - but we haven't heard that from anyone else and they may just be referring to the tendency to roll or possibly broach in some conditions that some boats of that era have.

We are interested in a reasonably fast yacht , but one that is seaworthy and capable of sailing to windward well.  We have been looking at the Sadler 32 and Sparkman and Stephen 34 as well but we were impressed with the UFO.

Grateful to hear any views you might like to give us as owners sailing one (as opposed to selling one)!.

best wishes

Si and Fiona Harrison

MDR wtides - windows tide prediction software

MDR wtides - windows tide prediction software
You can download wtides, a windows based derivative of the Unix program Xtides from this link. The distributors give no guarantee of accuracy and even state "not to be used for navigation" but I think it could be useful.
I compared the data for today at Felixstowe with that given on the BBC website. There was a difference of about 10 mins in times for HW and 0.2m in height of tide.

Flying Cloud

I am the owner of one of the long lost UFO 34's. The boat’s name is "Flying Cloud" and is located in Long Beach California where it is used regularly.

Flying cloud was originally purchased in the UK by a good friend of mine, he did some work on fitting her out in the UK then he moved to the United States and the boat came along too, shipped to the USA.  I then go involved 18 years ago and he and I spent the next 8 years finishing the boat and launching her. The boat made a trip to Florida through the canal, where she sat for 2 years before I trucked her back, her second trip across the United States, to California.  a small amount of work get her ship shape and I have been sailing her ever since.
She is a UK molded boat, Colvic, Hood sails, Kemp mast, Thorneycroft engine.  I will get you a nice picture with some palm trees in the back ground to post on the web.   I would love to hear from other owners.
Any idea how many UFO 34's were produced?

Paul Barnes
