Eupho for sale

I'm delighted you've added me to your website. I've been on the website before and have meant for sometime to get myself added. Thanks for taking the initiative - it's a great idea. By the way, "Eupho" is moored at Watchet Harbour Marina in West Somerset. I've had many great sailing adventures in her including the Hebrides and Ireland. I'm planning on going back to Australia next year and can't take her with me (although I'd certainly buy another UFO 34) so if you know anyone in the market for a UFO 34 I can do a great deal on her.

Kind Regards,
Greg Richards

Mel's looking for a UFO 34

I am looking for help and information and wondered if you could help.. I am currently looking to buy a yacht and saw Ackray at Hartlepool.. I am now interested in Ufo 34 to buy..

Information I am looking for is:

Do you know of anymore for sale , Ackray is expensive and I need others to compare.. To see why its so special.

Is there any difference with the Hazelwood built ones ?

Do UFOs sail ok if you fit them with furling headsail..

And any where else I can get information about UFO and what to look for when buying one .

Good and bad as to what to look for when buying.

I tried to get on the Renegade blog but don't understand it yet ... will get there in the end ..

Thanks ...Mel Tomlinson

Boarding ladder

Has anyone solved this difficult problem? What sort of ladder is best for climbing onto a UFO 34 from the water when you have been for a swim either voluntarily or by accident?

On Renegade we have tried a rigid metal one, which hooked over the toe rail (difficult to stow when not in use) and a rope ladder with plastic rungs, which stowed OK, but the rungs are narrow and hurt bare feet.

UFOX for sale

have sent you information regarding the UFOX. Do you have received this information?
I have a special offer for selling the UFOX for the next two weeks. This is becuase I have received an offer for a well maintained Elan 43,(not a charterboat).
I have two weeks time to make a decision, but I cannot afford two boats. So I have decided to try my UFO in the following two weeks for 34500,-- euro fixed price.
I take the VHF and the GPS with me, for the rest she is very complete.
Will you be so kind to put this on the UFO news?

Thanks in advance,

Robbert Vos

Tide table error for Brest and Oban

There is a serious error in the tidal information for Brest (page 400) and Oban in the Reeds PBO Small Craft 2006 Almanac. We are trying to alert as many mariners as possible to this, and are asking yacht clubs, marinas, harbourmasters, chandleries and bookshops to display a notice to this effect. The correct tidal information is available on our website for download, so please do visit www.reedsalmanac.co.uk

Check your backstay chainplates

Note the "backstay chainplate which was reinforced and bolted to the outside of the transom.(it was the backstay chainplate mounting under the aft deck that failed when the rig was lost) ( the boat was Landamores built)" says Andy Morris

Thornycroft problems

Hi Adrian,

could you possibly help me out please?

first an easy question, we changed our boat name to Lolo in stead of hakuna mutata, could you change that on the ufo list?

The other question is more difficult. I have an UFO34 with a 38Hp thornycroft engine, I guess original so about 30 years old now. i seem to be losing some oil in my cooling water, so I was wondering whether you have heard of this, of if you know a place were I could find books on this type of engine. I more information is needed I could send it over to you, since all my documentation is on board and i don't have it at hand here at home. Maybe we could post this question on the site, but I don't seem to be able to log a message anymore (or rather, I don't know how to do it)

hope to hear from you soon, kind regards, Paul Geurts

Hydrovane is now on the list, where there's a link to contact Don.

UFO in Florida for sale

Hi. I too have stumbled onto this great site. Please let your fellow bloggers know that I have a 1976 34' UFO in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida currently undergoing a total refit. It has a Parama 30 Perkins, and a nice tapered aluminum mast. The boat is currently stripped out and is a project boat. I have 3 other boats that also need my time so I'm pricing this boat so someone else will finish it. The price will rise as I spend time and money on it. For now the price is $10,000USD. If anyone is interested please email me at rbclandsea@yahoo.com. Thanks. Randy

Contacting UFO News and the Renegade Syndicate

Please attach a comment to this post if you would like to send a message to UFO News, or add your boat's details to the UFO List. I have deleted the old link, because it had become inundated with spam.

Spinnaker size isn't everything

Happy New Year! I've been trying to find out how big the spinnaker for a UFO 34 should be. I think I heard around 120 sqm, but that sounds a bit too much...

Have you any knowledge about that?

Achray for sale

UFO 34 Achray is for sale. She lies at Hartlepool.

UFO 34 Fascinator competes in new Year Race on the Clyde

Fairlie Yacht Club NEW YEAR’S RACE 2006

Good Craic, Lemarac, Cara of Kip, Fascinator* and Whirligig all made it to the start line for the 2006 New Year Race at Kip.  The “Le Mans” style running start from the Marina office to the waiting boats proves as popular as ever.

The light North Westerly breeze filled in nicely about ½ an hour into the race and it was Boyd Tunnocks Moody 38 “Lemarac” the current holder of the “Kip Marina Trophy” who was 1st to the turning mark at Skelmorlie Bank.  There was then a good beat up to Warden Bank and despite a poor spinnaker drop “Good Craig” pulled through “Lemarac” and opened up some space from “Cara”.  These 3 had moved away from the rest of the field until “Cara” sailed into a flat spot between two wind banks and despite “white caps” ahead and astern were left becalmed for around 15 minutes.  “Fascinator” and “Whirligig” were virtually alongside before “Cara” got going again but despite another good spinnaker run up to Warden Bank buoy, the “Teacake” boys in “Lemarac” had done enough, caught “Good Craic” on connected time and held off “Whirligig” by 3 minutes to retain the Kip Marina Trophy.

*UFO 34 (Murdo McDonald)

Well, it’s not the winning, but taking part that counts. Mind you I was glad to have my feet up in front of the fire on 1st January 2006. Call me a fair weather sailor if you like, but January’s for skiing, not sailing.

UFO 34 Endurance

Well that’s a noble name for a boat and I’m pleased to find her racing, with Jeff Dusting the skipper, in the “Cock of the Bay Race” at the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria. Please send more information if available.

Minstrel

I found a reference to the UFO 34 Minstrel racing in Torbay in 2004, with John Elliott at helm. If you have any information please send it so that I can add another to the ever growing list.
