Hello Tony - without being too smart about it, people have go around the world in boats from 14 foot upwards :o)

being serious though have a read of books by the following: a couple use S & S 34, so almost no difference in ability - we raced against an S & S 34 last year and were always quicker.

Jon SAnders - he did the Parmelia race, a non stop, ( I think then ) a double then a TRIPLE circum in an S & S 34 - very interesting read - he is by reading about it, a "different" personality type.

Jesse MArtin - at age about 18 - again in a S & S 34

Kay Cottee - " First Lady " - in a Cavalier 37 - very interesting read an an insight intoi the psychology of it all.

these are all Australains and Jon's book is out of print, but our local library system had a copy,

It would be interesting to see what modifications & gear you are considering Tony - any photos and commentary would be good.

What self steering are you thinking of ?

About 84 or 85 the race from Brisbane to Vanuatu was very heavy all the way from Brisbane to Noumea and a UFO 34 had no trouble at all - a good friend who I sailed with for a number of years was on board and his comments on the boats performance in that race was one of the deciding factors when I was looking at buying " Not Negotiable ".
